FAR FROM WAR (2005-6)

These site specific works, one a video installation in a hair salon in Los Angeles, the other an audio walking tour of downtown Chicago, use public engagement to reveal the ways politicized images intertwine with the popular imagination. In each piece, locals imagine their neighborhoods as war zones. With sometimes wild details of infrastructure, security, food supplies, and the art market, they describe a murky combination of lived experience and media-fueled speculation about life in the midst of war.
